MEENAN P.A. SUCCESSFULLY LOBBY’S FOR FIRST INSURANCE BILL ENACTED BY 2015 FLORIDA LEGISLATURE

House Bill 273 by Representative Perry (SB 202) is heading to the Governor’s desk. The bill allows a policyholder to affirmatively elect to receive their policy documents including notices electronically, requires that an agent must receive a sample copy of any “Notice of Policy Change” sent by an insurer to an agent’s customers, allows insurers to send the “Notice of Policy Change” as a separate notice or included within the renewal package, and prohibits an insurer from using the notice to add optional coverage, which would increase the premium, unless the policyholder affirmatively approves. “We are excited to have helped bring this important legislation to fruition for our clients, and appreciate the hard work of both Senator Bradley and Representative Perry” said Tim Meenan, Managing Shareholder. “In a year that’s shaping up to have the lowest number of bills enacted in a long time, getting the legislation out early was a key factor” said Joy Ryan, Shareholder.
